The Puzzle Pieces are Coming together!

So today was my second day as a Mamavation Mom. It is very interesting that in two short days my thinking is already changing. First off I think about everything in terms of how can this raise my heart rate or make this activity into a work out. I loved meeting with Leah yesterday and hearing about this journey I have begun. We were sent workouts for the EA Active and EA Active More Workouts so last night I sat down and set up my workout.

I got to talk with Dr. Renna today and I have to say I feel so charged after our conversation. I am allowed 4 grains per day which need to primarily be whole grains. I am allowed 8 ounces of protein a day; this is going to be the hard one for me. I love meat and so I already told Ken we are buying a food scale because I can not eyeball the whole palm of your hand thing. I am allowed 3 non fat milk servings per day which will be mostly taken as yogurt and cottage cheese (I can not stand milk by itself). Here is the part I LOVE I am allowed 2 servings of fruit (or about 3 cups a day)! I need to eat VERY sparingly pears, plums, peaches, cherries, grapes, and apples because she said they are high in fructose. (Alas avoid high in fructose/glucose foods) I am also to eat 3 servings of vegetables (around 3-4 cups). I learned this which I thought was interesting (you may already know this) corn can not be counted as your vegetable since it is a grain….. which means I can have little to no corn! I am super excited to go grocery shopping tomorrow!

I told you I set up my EA Active workouts last night. Well I did the 39 minute lower body workout on the More Workouts today… Okay I think Leah is trying to put me in a grave lol. I mean this was so hard but I could tell it will work all the muscles. I would never have put this together for myself. I love it; I mean I did not love it as I am panting and sweating all over my living room. Honestly I thought I might die…. I know the accomplishment I will feel when I can do it *fairly* easily.

I can honestly say I pushed myself harder today than I can remember doing in a while now. I look forward to the Upper Body workout tomorrow on the EA Active and also beginning to implement Dr. Renna’s plan. What’s for breakfast? 1 cup Special K with 1 cup non fat milk. 1/2 cup berries, and 1 cup of coffee with Almond Milk. YUMMY!!!

Let me know if you would like me to share with you my eating plan or the workouts I am doing! Thank you for your tweets and your constant encouragement. You can keep up with me daily on Bookie Boo Forum to see my steps, what I ate, my water intake,  my exercises, and overall my life changing daily.

I want to thank @SmoothFitness @EASActiveGirl (follow my talk about my workouts via #easactive) @EarthFootwear @ChefsRequested
None of this would be nearly as rewarding without companies such as this. Please give them some love they deserve it!

EatSmart Precision Pro Scale Groupshop Deal

About a month ago, I opened up the official Mamavation OpenSky Shop which has a bunch of Bookieboo approved products to help you with your healthy living lifestyle. I don’t make a cent off this shop. All proceeds go to either charity or a social media mom in need (which is technically not a non-profit, but whatev…they get a check to help them…you get it.) So basically I’m doing this for you guys. I add products that I think are fantastic, you purchase them to help with your lifestyle, and then the proceeds go somewhere to benefit someone in need.

Today until Friday is the Groupshop special with the EatSmart Precision Pro Scale & Calorie King Food Journal. What the heck is a groupshop special? Well, it’s actually kinda simple. A certain amount of people need to promise to purchase a certain item in order to get it at a special price. If we don’t get enough people to sign up, then no one is charged. So you are only signing up to purchase the product if it goes for that price. I need 5 people to purchase this item at $22 for the sale to happen. If we don’t get enough,  no one is charged. The sale will start on Wednesday, July 14th and end on Friday, July 17th. So this will take some effort to make it work, but it’s worth it. So just tweet with each other and figure out who’s gonna buy. I’ll have all the specific amounts next week. I will say that the deal will be the best you can find on the web, so it’s worth me writing about.

Just a note about food scales and portion control. If you are finding that you are eating the right foods and NOT losing weight, it’s probably a matter of portion control. I struggled with this BIG TIME when I lost over 170 lbs. I had to measure everything out in order to figure out how much I could eat. It took me a long time before I was able to “eyeball” things. This food scale is a wonderful tool to keep you in line with portion control. Then jotting things down in the Calorie King journal will just cement the deal.

Let me know that you purchased the product by commenting below. :)

I’m A Mamavation Mom – Day One Recap

Nothing has ever tested my will to be healthy like two weeks of hard campaigning and calling friends to twist arms and force them to call their parents and teach them how to surf the ‘net in order to vote for me.

Don’t get me wrong, I know it’s the kind of will-testing that many people signed up for and I’m really grateful I have this opportunity to change the lives of both myself and my family. I’m also really thankful to have all of you along for the ride – I hope I’m able to be the kind of Mamavation Mom that doesn’t have you wonder whether or not anyone should have bothered to vote for me. LOL

So now, on to the fun stuff.

I presented an odd challenge for Dr. Renna today. I don’t have really strong food preferences and I don’t eat enough. I freaked when she told me I was going to have to eat around 2250 calories a day. I’ve been having trouble keeping up with the self-imposed 1900 calories a day I started eating when I began campaigning for Mamavation (the change that almost single handedly caused a 9lb. weight loss) I still – because my brain is wired all messed up – felt sick to my stomach at the thought of that much food. But Dr. Renna explained that my metabolism isn’t going to work unless I eat enough and if I don’t eat that much I might experience too dramatic a weight loss and that’s not healthy.

She spent time on the phone with me working out a solid meal plan that included all the foods I like (chili, anyone?) and leaving out foods I can’t eat (eggs, cottage cheese, and cow milk) I ended up running to my refrigerator a couple of times to give her nutrition facts on the food I was currently eating to see how it would fit into my meal plan.

The most amazing thing I learned is that you can buy no nitrate lunchmeat. I can still have sandwiches! I mean, you can also cut up baked chicken and turkey to make your own lunchmeat, but it’s nice when you want something quick and easy to know you can just make a deli sandwich without knowing you’re killing yourself with every bite!

She’s also having me switch from my regular peanut butter to an all-natural version of the same peanut butter. She swears it’s not separated and there is no need to stir it, which is good because if I had to look at the oil on the top of the peanut butter I’d just never eat peanut butter again.

I also had my first Mamavation Mom meeting with Leah and Jess. It was great hearing about how everything is going to go (even if I feel awful I’m posting my first post so late tonight!) but it’s a relief to know that Jess has to write one of these tomorrow. I just have to worry about doing a video post on Thursday. So get ready for more fun and excitement in video-land with me.

I’m pretty sure Jess’ post is going to be way better, because I’m completely brain fried right now. All that nutrition information after a day of trying to figure out what I was supposed to be doing has left me exhausted. Thankfully I managed to get in my water, steps, and workout for the day so I don’t feel like I’m letting down the Mamavation community on day one! LOL

I’m excited to be taking this journey and even though I was scared my personality would scare everyone off, you’ve all been so gracious and caring I just wish I could give you all a hug and say thank you and then make you laugh. Because you deserve both hugs and laughter :)

See you with my video post on Thursday! Now I’m off to blog at BookieBoo and talk about what I ate today, what I drank today, how I worked out today, and how many steps I took today.

Whew!

Have a great day and remember…The scale is not a map, it’s a compass.

Thank you so much to our wonderful Mamavation sponsors, I wouldn’t be doing this without you and my appreciation knows no bounds! (If you don’t follow these great brands, you should!)

Have a great night!!

The will receive a professional nutritional plan created by a physician that specializes in nutrition, Dr. Renna, and a fitness program created by Tracey Mallett. They will also receive two pairs of Earth Footwear, a treadmill from Smooth Fitness, an EA SPORTS Active, Tracey Mallett and Tae Bo DVDs. Their lives become a virtual open book with twists and turns and real life challenges they must overcome. The purpose behind the campaign is to inspire moms all over the internet to live a healthier lifestyle and share those experiences with their families.  The program is managed by @bookieboo, Leah Segedie, who has successfully lost over 170 lbs. herself and kept it off for almost a year. She is no stranger to hard work and overcoming challenges in weight loss as a mom.

How can you help? Well, I’m glad you asked. We need help promoting the Mamavation campaign and twitter party. You can tweet about the party and show us the love. Below are example tweets. (This will also enter you into the giveaway, but make sure to leave a comment below.)

Earth Footwear is the official sponsor of the Mamavation campaign. Earth Footwear is perfect for moms who want to save time. According to a study, people that wear Earth Footwear burn 4x more fat than those who don’t wear Earth Footwear. The secret is in the technology. Earth Footwear uses Kalso ® Negative Heel Technology®, a unique inclined sole that positions the toes 3.7º higher than the heels. The slight angle shifts weight subtly back over the heels, and can help strengthen and tone the body while also burning calories. So if you can’t get to the gym, put on a pair of Earth Footwear and go about your normal routine. The shoes will do the work for you. OR if you want better results with your workout, put on a pair of Earth Footwear to really kick the fat burning into high gear!

You Can Do It: Goal Day December 5th

December 5th is now Goal Day for the Mamavation Sistahood and Mizfitonline community!

No matter where you are in your fitness life, there is always something you can work to reach. December 5th is the day we are encouraging our communities to work toward something you have never done before. Push yourself. Hang your proverbial balls on the wall, (even though I know none of you REALLY have balls, but I have them in my imaginary world and they are on the wall all the time, so you can have them too…just cause you are cool by association ;)

If you are a couch potato, work toward walking or slogging (slow jogging) a 5K. If you run already, come with @Mizfitonline and I and run the Rock n’Roll Half Marathon in Las Vegas. Btw, you can come with us anyway and walk it cause it’s walking friendly. If running doesn’t interest you, check out the push up challenge, take a Tae Bo class or go on a 5 mile hike. I don’t care WHAT you do, as long as everyone has a personal challenge they are working towards and will complete it by December 5th. Use #mizboorun and #mamavation when you are chatting about that goal so everyone knows it’s YOUR THING.

If you are looking for a 5K or half marathon in your local area, check out this site. It’s a fantastic resource for everything you need running wise. Also, remember the Mamavation Moms from this season will be required to sign up and run a 5K within 6 months of finishing the boot camp. I have a feeling they may utilize this site to find one in their local area.

My goal for December is to run a half marathon. I’ve never done that before and to be quite honest, it intimidates me. Smooth Fitness decided to take pity on @Mizfitonline and I and sent us treadmills to help us with our training. These treadmills are fantastic. I get a bunch of use out of mine when my baby is not writing all over it with chalk. (Yeah, I have that kinda house…but at least they aren’t writing all over the walls.) Just fyi, Smooth Fitness is offering our communities $100 off a machine of $1499 or more by using code “mamavation” at checkout.

So what is your goal? What is the one thing you haven’t attempted yet? I’ve told you what mine is. Now it’s your turn. I’m excited to hear what it is.

Mamavation Finalists: GO VOTE!

After watching the videos, interaction on twitter, and reading all the applications, I’ve come to a decision. Just to be different and because I CAN, I’ve decided to choose 6 Finalists instead of 5. Yeah, I know I said 5, but it was too difficult to filter this group down even more, so I decided not to. I’m unpredictable like that.

If you find that your name is not on this list, I’m sorry, but I would recommend that you enter into the Earth Footwear Move It & Lose It Challenge for a chance to win $500 and a pair of Earth Footwear.  I choose @all_about_savin precisely because she demonstrated to me how capable she was during the challenge last campaign and didn’t disappear on us after she wasn’t chosen. That shows heart and dedication and it impresses me. Hint hint for anyone who is thinking of applying again.

@jennydecki

@ljenator

@all_about_savin

@iamsucceeding

@chobysauce

@rachelsteffen

If you have found your name is on this list, congratulations! Now I need a couple of things from you:

1. I need you to show up for Mamavation TV Monday night as a guest of honor
2. You need to see the doctor as soon as possible so I get a doctors note clearing you from the following by July 12th: high intensity exercise, a calorie restricted diet, and the emotional capacity to handle the campaign. DM me and I’ll give you my fax number.
3. Invite everyone you know to the Mamavation Twitter Party Launch on July 12th.
4. Go get a “Fit Friend!” You need one by July 12th.
5. Get a pedometer so you can start tracking your steps.
6. Get a reliable scale, cause those scale pictures are going to be public.

Last piece of advice I’m going to give you is get creative. You will need more than just your social media friends voting for you to win, I would advice you to pull out all the stops to get the votes you need. Every Mamavation Mom that won used all her resources and was very clever with her voting plan. You won’t know what is happening because all the voting results are private, but if you have any questions, DM me with them. I’ll be happy to answer any questions you have.

Good luck ladies!!!

Mamavation Mondays: Meet the Finalists

This week is Mamavation Voting week. On Monday morning I will announce who the Finalists are and now it’s their turn to mount their own campaign for votes.  The voting widget will allow you to vote every 24 hours and for as many applicants as you want.  You don’t have to be a social media rock star to win but you do have to be smart and creative. Every campaign, I’m surprised by the amount of votes one person gets that didn’t have the social media “celebrity” status so to speak.  This levels the playing field cause it really is about utilizing all your resources and getting as many people involved in your lifestyle change as possible. Plus, my evil little plan is for those same people to hold you accountable if you DON’T win. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! (*evil laugh*)

People always ask me why I keep the voting private. It’s cause I know that being overweight is very emotionally taxing. I used to be a size 22 and was very embarrassed by it. In fact, I barely left the house, which is why I lost most of my weight at home.  This campaign is about changing that part of your life. The last thing I’m about to do is announce to the world who was in last place. That is all. Anyone with a problem with that can put a comment in the round circular bin that I have outside my house, i.e. the trash can. We call that the comment box in my house.

Again I’m going to say I expect all applicants to have already started living a healthy lifestyle. That means exercise, NO SODA OR ALCOHOL, and eating a very sensible diet. Why do I say no soda or alcohol? Okay, well just two sodas per week increases your chances of cancer AND alcohol consumption and weight loss do NOT go hand in hand. Trust me. I know after losing over 170 lbs. You can’t drink and lose weight at the same time. It slows your metabolism down and you have to work 2x harder to get the same amount of weight off that week.

For those of you who did not make the cut. I am sorry. This is always difficult for me and I don’t enjoy letting people down, but I am constrained by the amount of fitness product I can give to the moms. Don’t forget that I still want you around in the Sistahood.  I encourage you to enter into the Earth Footwear’s Move It & Lose It Challenge. Lose weight with us and you can win $500 and a pair of Earth Footwear. Plus, don’t forget, we are an awesome community full of supportive moms. We got your back! If you are already part of the Sistahood, you know that.

What Is a "Fit Friend" And Why Do YOU Need One?

Every Mamavation applicant needs a “Fit Friend.”

A Fit Friend is someone who ALREADY lives a stable healthy lifestyle and can help mentor you with your decision to do the same. A Fit Friend can be someone you know in real life (IRL) or online, but NOT your spouse. This person doesn’t have to be skinny, but they DO have to have a very stable active lifestyle that incorporates exercise or sporty activities and good nutrition on a regular basis. They don’t need to have a family, although I would encourage this cause they will understand more of the challenges you go through.

This is the job of your Fit Friend:
1. To check in with you every other day to see how you are doing.
2. To hold your feet to the fire and ask you about your nutrition and exercise.
3. To encourage you and help you find solutions to the challenges you face.
4. To establish a mentor or friend relationship with you.
5. To continue this relationship for about 8 months. (7 week boot camp plus 6 months afterward.)

This aspect of your healthy living metamorphosis is very important. Everyone needs a very solid support system to be successful. Even the moms who do not make it to the top 2 positions, but are in the Earth Footwear Move It & Lose It Challenge will need this support system. Unfortunately I would LOVE to, but I can’t be everything to everybody. My family starts to get mad when I spend too much time online. (Honest truth.) So part of the Mamavation campaign is for YOU to create your support structure so that you have a better chance of being successful. This is the part where you take responsibility for yourself, which is what you really need to learn in the long run.

If you don’t have a Fit Friend, find one. I’m giving everyone till July 12th, although I will be VERY impressed if you get yours early.
