Mamavation Mom: Ups and Downs

This past week has been filled with ups and downs. Luckily more ups than downs! Lets start with the ups first. I have lost 7.6 pounds since applying to be a Mamavation Mom, dropped a 2nd digit, and 14 inches for good. Yes, 14 inches!! Woo hoo! My clothes fit so much better, I have more energy, and I feel great. What a wonderful feeling!

Here are my measurements from when I first applied to be a Mamavation Mom, and now.  I am super proud of the now numbers!

Now for the not so hot stuff from my past week.  I have found myself finding it harder to want to work out this week. Our exercise plan now includes running, and like I said in my last vlog, I am not a fan.  For me, running is such a challenge.  Other than it being physically hard for me to do, I do not like that I am not good at it and that frustrates the heck out of me.  I know it takes time and I need to take baby steps, but I cannot help but feel kind of deflated. Now give me a kickbox class and I will knock your socks off!

What am I going to do to help motivate myself?  I think I may break down and get a gym membership.  Running on a treadmill is a tiny bit more doable for me.  I like that I can watch my time and see how many seconds I have left to run during an interval.  I also like to be able to keep track of my speed and see how far I have gone.  Plus, it will be nice for me to be able to head to the gym to walk/run anytime I want, day or night.  I also need to get some new music to listen to during my workouts.  I love music, and I love working out to music, so I am not sure why my playlist is so 3 years ago.  Okay, I do know why.  A little guy named Baybah came along and I forgot about getting fun songs for myself.  Music and gym, my plans for this week.

What do you do to help motivate yourself to workout?

Thank you Mamavation, my mentors Shelley and Andrea, and Leah and Mark for all of your support.  Thank you also to Alysa’s from InspiredRD for the yummy food plan and Pete Cohen for your Weight Loss Guru program.  And a special thank you to my fellow Mamavation Moms Laura and Andrea.  I look forward to tweeting with you both every day!

See you next week,

Lolo from Crazy About My Baybah

14 inches is amazing! I am always in need of motivation. I do so better when I have someone else to do it with. Right now my sweat sister is working around the clock and it just seems so much harder to make myself get C and go do it.

Just remember the slump is normal and hits everyone slightly differently, and at a different time…we just call it dreaded week 3. But if it is your dreaded week 4 or 5, it is still an obstacle to overcome.

Best of luck with your running. I sympathize because I don’t like running either. I hate spending money on a gym if I don’t go so use RunKeeper (a free app) on my droid. It gives me time, speed and logs my walks/runs. I put it on my gear pouch on my jogger so I can see it easily. If the gym makes it work for you, do it. But, I just wanted to share my frugal solution. :)

With running, just give it a chance and walk/jog when you need to. It is important to keep pushing but you will work up to it. Who knows, in another few weeks you might start to like it. Stranger things have happened. ;)

Keep pushing. Keep working hard. I am so proud of how far you have come and all the great changes you are making.

Way to go! You are doing a great job. Its hard to get into running, but I do love my treadmill for the reasons you mentioned. You are lucky to live in a great area for gyms with childcare or even finding a great deal on a used one in Craig’s list.
Good luck preparing for your 5k. You can do it!

Running is hard to love, or even like! I won’t even say it’s a weight thing. I lost all of my weight and then some and still didn’t like it. But when you DO start to like it, it is FANTASTIC. And it seriously is a game changer when it comes to your weight loss and fitness. There were days that doing it made me curse life… but when I didn’t, that was when I saw my loss slow.

You’re doing amazing. Keep up the great work!

14 inches is amazing! Way to go! As a plus size runner, I can sympathize with feeling like you’re not a good runner. You don’t have to fall in love with running (although I did & it’s my cherished alone time), just remember that this is not a competition with anyone other than yourself. I echo what Andrea said re: a free app for your phone. It will measure your time & distance. I prefer road running so that works for me. You’re doing great!

You are doing such a great job Lolo! I think a gym membership would be a great idea too, you could always take some classes!

  7. 13

I am SO proud of you! You are doing so amazing and such an inspiration! I’m more likely to work out in a gym than outside also.

So happy for you Lolo. You’re doing such a great job. You’re my inspiration.

Everyone sucks when they start running. I’m not a fan either, but this is good for you. Trust me. :) XXOO

Congrats on your weight & inches lost! I just wrote about downloading some new workout music to get me motivated in my blog, it definitely helps!! I started running with the couch 2 5k app and I loved it (even as someone who hates running!)

14 inches, that’s fantastic! If you like having feedback on your runs, have you tried getting an iPhone app? I love using Runkeeper, you can set it for the lady to say something every time you run a mile, she can also tell you your pace – it’s great. Also she says these cues over your own music.
If you do have an iPhone or Android you should check it out Runkeeper.com plus it has a great community where you can get support for running.
Well done you, keep it up!

    Great job on the losses!

I hate running too. I guess it has to be hard when that is what is in the plan…..myself I would do what you love to do. I stay so much more committed if I do things I enjoy the majority of the time.

I love that you keep finding different ways to motivate your self. You do know how it is – one foot in front of the other. Have another great week

That is amazing progress! I am motivated by the simple knowledge that I get a little time alone! LOL
