Mamavation Mom – Week 3

Hey everyone!!

Can you believe we are already in week 3??  Seems like just yesterday we were finding out that we were the lucky three to be Mamavation Moms.

I am sure you know that week 2 was a pretty emotional week for me.  I am so glad it is over and I can concentrate on this week and doing what I need to do to be healthy!

This is what I woke up to on Sunday morning:

Yeah – I kinda like that number!  J  That is -1.8 lbs for the week and a total of -6 lbs since applying to be a Mamavation Mom.  Not too shabby, if you ask me.

So my wonderful cousin sent me an email and said my posts were too brief.  And since I completely love her, I wanted to talk more about my meal plan.

Alysa is amazing, first of all.  She really listens to what I need and I appreciate that.  Since I am gluten-free, dairy-free AND egg-free, I am sure my meal plans can be tricky.  But she hasn’t complained yet so I take that as a plus.  Lol

Here is what my exchanges look like:

Breakfast 1 fruit, 2 starch, 2 fat
Lunch 1 veggie, 1 fruit, 2 starch, 3 lean meat, 2 fat
Snack 1 veggie, 1.5 fat
Dinner 1 veggie, 2 starch, 3 lean meat, 2 fat
Snack 1 fruit, 1 milk OR 2 starch

For me, the hardest part is adding in the starches and fats.  For all my adult life, I have been trying to cut that stuff out.  So to add it in…..yeah, it is super hard for me.  This week my mentors suggested I not count calories.  Counting calories is a control issue for me – to give it up means putting my trust into the process.  I promised I would try and I am doing my best to follow my meal plan to the T.

I love adding in more veggies though.  I am a huge fan of vegetables – more so than fruit.  Kale chips is my favorite, right now.  I am a huge fan of brussel sprouts and asparagus.  I tried roasted cauliflower this past week and it was delicious!  I want to try to roast more vegetables and see what else I can find.  Oooh, maybe carrots?  Hmmmm.

So my goals for this next week are going to be:

  • To not count calories

That’s it.  For anyone else maybe this would be easy.  For me, it isn’t.  But it is going to be good.  I can’t wait to come back and tell you all how successful I was. J

Thank you to Alysa @InspiredRD (whose website is Inspired RD) for your amazing meal plans and for your support.  Thank you also to Pete Cohen (@petecohen_ or at his website, WeightLossGuru) for your wonderful program!  Thank you to Leah, Shelley, Shannon and Kelly for your support.  And thank you to my fellow Mamavation Mom, Laura and LoLo for being my backbone when I needed it.  We got this girls!!

Until next week.

I loved what you said about learning how to do it right. Alysa really does an awesome job. My week three was in my week 2. You’ll do great. It’s really hard to let go of control, but you can do it.

Great big hugs, you are doing great. Remember it is a learning process; so that you can be in control when it is all over. Awesome job with the weight loss and I am loving your daily journals!!

Isn’t Alysa amazing? If you have heard past Mamavation Moms gush about her meal plans, this is why. She listens to each of us and finds solutions to fit our needs. We are all unique and so are our food needs. Of course, be sure to ask her questions and tweak the plans as necessary.

Congrats! You are doing such a great job. I love following along with your journey.

I thought maybe you were a veggies girl after your first week. You are the opposite of me. Way to go on the progress this week. Keep trusting in the process. It’s working. Can you imagine counting calories the rest of your life, yuck!

This is one of those rare opportunities you get to say to yourself “I obviously don’t know what I”m doing because it got me here…I need to just listen and learn…open my heart and mind.” I understand the control thing. I do it too, but in this instance, you need to first learn how to do it right and THEN you can take all that control back after you know what you are doing.

I will say that the hardest part of being a Mamavation Mom is giving up the control and listening and doing what is told for you to do. But I always say if I knew what I should have been doing then why wasn’t I doing it. Because its alot easier to do nothing at all than to do something. But you are doing awesome… The first 3 weeks fly by then the last week is the slowest I think… But you are doing GREAT keep it up!

I’m SUCH a control freak, and it’s been SO hard to let go of that – you’re doing a great job at it, so keep up the good work! And roasted cabbage is fantastic, too. Slice it up into horizontal 1/2″ sections, mist it with olive oil and sprinkle it with minced garlic. *MWAH* delicious.
