Mamavation Monday: From Heart to Heart

Did you party with us last week at the Mamavation Boot Camp Twitter Party Launch #11? Three (yes, you read it right!) new Mamavation Moms have been selected and the ladies have been working hard mastering basics of Mamavation bootcamp. Check out their posts on mamavation.com, but here is a sneak peak:

Laura (@mommycanrun): This week was busy, busy, busy! I managed to get all the workouts in I needed to, but the scale refused to budge yet again…
Lolo (@MyBaybah): I am exhausted, but could not be happier…
Andrea (@Andreaemilien): I don’t feel freaked out yet . It might be different in the morning…

The BEFORE pictures and measurements have been taken, and the bootcamp is well on it’s way. As with any bootcamp, this one is quite tough (those of you who have been around already know that). Please cheer our new Mamavation Moms on as they go though this life changing experience. I am wishing good luck to Andrea, Laura, and Lolo from the bottom of my heart.

And speaking of heart, February is a Heart Health Month. What does it mean for us, moms? According to the American Heart Association an estimated 42 million American women live with cardiovascular disease, but too many are unaware of the threat they face. Many women can significantly reduce their risk of heart disease, if they have the information they need, know the questions to ask their health providers and receive the support to make heart-smart changes in their lives. Just think of February as our annual reminder to take better care of ourselves – learn the facts, ask questions!

Special Guest: David Grotto (@DdavidGrotto)

Dave’s first interest in nutrition started over twenty-five years ago when he worked in the natural foods industry, having owned and operated his own natural food store. He became a registered dietitian and attended the University of Illinois at Chicago and graduated with honors with a degree in medical dietetics and nutrition.
After school, he worked in various clinical and food service settings and even tried his hand as a broadcaster where he hosted his own live radio show on health and nutrition for over 10 years and also hosted a local health-focused television show for two years.Dave also proudly served as a national spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association.

He is now the founder and president of Nutrition Housecall LLC, a nutrition consulting firm that provides nutrition communications, lecturing and consulting services, and also offers personalized at-home dietary services.

Inspired to help his patients without depriving them of their favorite foods, Dave wrote the acclaimed book “101 Foods That Could Save Your Life”, which is now out in eighteen different languages (to date). His second book “101 Optimal Life Foods”, with a foreword written by Montel Williams, debuted in January of 2010. Dave is also a freelance writer and serves as an advisor to Fitness magazine and Sear’s FitStudio and blogs each week featured in the Real Nutrition community for WebMD.
