Mamavation Monday: Happy Valentines Day and Say NO to Stress!

Waiting for tomorrow to be happy will get you nowhere (“The Swiss Cheese Theory of Life”)

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. What gift are you getting for yourself? Let’s face it – we are the best (most of the time) at picking gifts for ourselves. I am sure our Mamavation Moms have no other choice, but think about themselves right now. They have spent the last 2 weeks thinking about nothing else, but what they eat, how many steps their pedometers registered, and what workout to do next. Don’t believe me? Check this out:

Laura: I am feeling a bit more secure about what I need to do. Today is the day I am going to get a complete grasp on the meal planning and meal preparation.

Lolo
: I AM STRONG! I CAN DO THIS!  I WILL DO THIS!  Yes it is going to be hard work.  Yes it is going to take time.  Yes there are going to be ups and downs. But, yes I will and can do this!

Andrea: I won the battle against the burpees.  I no longer hate or despise them.  I might in fact love them.  Well – love is taking it a bit far but I do like them.

But let’s go back to Valentines Day gifts. I, for once, want something very immaterial - an evening to myself. Life does get hectic and I am sure many of you just want to stop for a second and unstress. That is why I couldn’t think of a better guest for the upcoming Mamavation TV show than Judith Belmont. Judy Belmont, MS, LPC is a licensed psychotherapist and wellness speaker with over 30 year of experience.   She has spoken nationally on a variety of mental health and wellness topics, and is a member of The National Speakers Association.  With her insights about the common issues and challenges that people face as a foundation, she has spoken extensively on topics including resiliency, positive thinking, communication and managing stress effectively.  Her primary focus has been to offer practical  strategies to boost emotional resilience, self-empowerment, enhancing personal and workplace wellness.

She is the co-author of a whimsical, self-help book on resiliency and wellness, The Swiss Cheese Theory of Life. This book has a great collection of real life situations that we face every day and helps us take a different look at it. I came across multiple scenarios in the book that seem very common and happened to me multiple times – handling a difficult boss, holding on to the past, not moving forward because of fear of failure.
