Is it July already? The summer is flying fast. Did you participate in #Mamavation5k? I am so looking forward to everyone’s sweaty pictures and blog posts about this fun event. What other ambitious plans do you have for this month?
We really hope that you take full advantage of the 4th of July weekend and spend some quality time with your family. Enjoy your summer grilling and don’t forget to include a lot of vegetables and green salads. Whatever you do, remember to stay hydrated and use plenty of sunscreen. And if you need cooking ideas, reach out to the community – there are a lot of creative cooks among us.
I don’t know about you, but I probably would have to work extra hard to burn extra calories this week. Where do you get your sweat on: public gym or home living room? This week we will be talking about home workout programs.
Special Guest: Kodjo Hounnaké (@kodjoworkout), full-time blogger at Kodjo Workout and full-time investment analyst at a Manhattan-based Hedge Fund.
Originally from Togo, a small French-speaking country off the coast of West Africa, Kodjo decided to come to the United States of America, to further his education and broaden his opportunities. He took it upon himself to learn English (by watching the Oprah Winfrey show; a good amount of CNN, CSPAN, Cartoon Network, etc.). He also purchased English self-learning audio tapes, and through self-discipline and impregnable resilience, he was able to learn the English language.
For Kodjo, a gym was a great way to work out in an environment full of other like-minded people, BUT he believed a gym could easily give him an excuse to skip workouts (especially in the cold New York winter months). So, instead of signing up for one, he decided to design home exercise routines called bodyweight workout, that he could easily perform at home, and which would be challenging enough to yield effective results. Also, these routines had to be done in approximately 30 minutes because of his busy schedule.
In spreading his knowledge on exercise regimen, Kodjo likes to emphasize two things: the body is your best and most reliable gym equipment and that the mind is your strongest muscle. He firmly believes that you are the sole master of your weight loss and healthy body results, and whatever outcome is either the fruit of your hard work or the lack thereof. There’s no one else or nothing else to blame.
