Mamavation Monday – Reaching your goals – but setting them first.

It’s hard to believe that another year is almost at an end.

We’ve stuck together as we’ve witnessed so many Mamavation Moms  transform their lives with the Mamavation Mom bootcamp.

Yes, the Mamavation Sistahood has seen a lot this year and so many things are in the works already for 2013.  It’s going to be an exciting year fo sho!

Resolutions and goals

This time of year is not only a time of reflection on the past challenges and accomplishments   It’s a time to plan the coming year (years?) ahead – sometimes that includes making New Years Resolutions… Sometimes that might include goal setting or revisiting… perhaps a vision board is more your speed or are you doing a version of a bucket list?

Do you take time to write out your goals?  Seeing is believing and I somehow think that when we write our goals out, it solidifies them in some way.

Here at Mamavation, we have some goals for the community as well as our own personal goals we hope to achieve this year.  What about you?

When making goals, it’s all too easy to get stuck on the “easy ones” – lose weight, save more, etc.  Instead I challenge you to make SMART goals:

Specific – Instead of saying “I will lose weight this year” or “I will save more money this year” Be specific  - how much?  How will you do it? When will it be done? There’s something more empowering about saying exactly what you want to have happen.

Measurable – This is a part of being specific – you need a way to measure your goals – whether it’s a scale, a bank balance, a measuring tape, a clothing size – you pick of course, but if you can’t measure it, how can you know if you are on track to reach your goals?

Attainable – Be realistic.  If I were to set a goal to become a lawyer in 2013, it wouldn’t be very attainable seeing as how I haven’t even applied for law school.  Setting a goal to lose 30 lbs in 30 days falls into the same category – there is no healthy, metabolic way to accomplish that task and you are setting yourself up for failure and disappointment.

Relevant – Setting a goal to make 200 PB & J Sandwiches in 2 hours may be fun, but unless you are running a PB & J Food truck, it’s not really all that relevant, is it?  Set goals that matter to you. (also, if feeding the hungry with your PB & J  sandwiches maybe it IS a relevant goal)  Basically, looking at your life, how does accomplishing this goal fit?

Timebound – Ya gotta have a deadline… otherwise, it’s not really a goal it’s a dream.  So when will you have completed this goal?

As you are considering your goals and resolutions this year, be sure to consider all areas of your life as appropriate- health, family, faith, finances, career, education… (you get the idea) but don’t forget to include a goal or two that speaks to other aspects of your life we often forget – fun, adventure, challenges, etc.

We won’t be having a giveaway or Mamavation TV this week – but I’d like to propose a question or two should you opt to link up for this week’s blogging carnival and need inspiration for a post idea.

Do you set goals?
What goals have you set for yourself?
How can Mamavation and the Sistahood help support you in reaching those goals?

** Don’t forget – if living a healthier life is on your list of goals/resolutions, there are two challenges you might want to consider – Mamavation Mom Bootcamp is currently accepting applications and the Omron Strapless Heart Rate Monitor Fitness Challenge  is about to begin!  Don’t miss out on a chance to jumpstart your efforts! What are you waiting for?**

    Do you set goals? Yes!
What goals have you set for yourself? I set small goals like meeting my weight watchers points plus weekly and making sure I am being active.
How can Mamavation and the Sistahood help support you in reaching those goals? It is just nice to know there are other people out there pushing through it too. It can be really hard to have support, especially during the holidays. Everyone is trying to get you to be bad with them…
