Family Is As Family Does

we like to take family walks

one of our family walks

What does that make my family? HEALTHY! That’s right – it’s not just me, folks. My husband, kids, heck – even my sister-in-law – are jumping on the healthy train with me. Last July, my husband and I made the decision to start taking our health seriously and workout more. We bought a membership to the YMCA and started working out. Gradually, I started going more and more often. By last fall, I was going to the gym about 5 times a week to do classes and/or cardio – but only when my husband wasn’t working too much overtime. It was awesome, but when his schedule was tricky, my gym time was the first to go. Then came the Mamavation campaign with the hazing and application process. Now here I am – still kicking it! And now I’m working out at home (thanks to the treadmill my dad gave me in December!). So how is my family dealing with the changes? Check it out here:

Great video, right? I’m sure I forgot something I wanted to tell you. I think I reshot it about 5 times. First I did it on my phone because I had microphone problems on Mamavation TV (yes, I am an excellent procrastinator and wait until the night before to make my video, it also helps me to not be too confused on the weeks…). Luckily, I was able to get the computer back up and running properly, so no – I don’t sound like R2D2 or crickets if you are afraid to listen! Anyway, yeah, so part of my family adjusting to the changes that I’ve made in bootcamp were tricky – my  husband was diagnosed with Celiac Disease and so we are now a gluten-free house. It’s been fun, trying to make sure he stays away from gluten. He keeps thinking a little something here or there won’t bother him, and then WHAM – his stomach starts hurting again.

And you want to talk weight loss? The man has dropped 18 pounds since he’s been staying away from gluten! Not only that, the stomach pain that has been plaguing him for MONTHS is gone. So yeah, having the foundations of nutrition that the bootcamp taught me has gone a long way to making meals for the entire family that are safe for everyone. And I really love not having to make separate dinners anymore! So ok, I know what you really want to know – what is UP with MY weight loss? Let me stop bragging on my husband for a minute here and get to the real issue…

So, you know I’m real, right? You can’t possibly find a faker that takes terrible pictures so regularly, can you? HAHAHA anyway… yeah, here’s yet another terribly crooked, weirdly dark, weigh in that I tried to brighten.

week 5 weigh in for Joanna

That’s right! I not only kicked booty this past week, but I also lost 3.2 pounds!!!

Here’s the breakdown of how it all went down -

    Rebecca @RUtheMOMof says:

I love the family walks can I come along. I promise it won’t be weird or anything. I have tried going Gluten free in the past and chickened out. You are AWESOME !!!!

HAHAHA you are ALWAYS welcome to come along! Because whether you like it or not, you are now part of MY family too ;-) And let me tell you, there is a whole lot more crazy than just me. I’m like, a calm one… Scared yet? My husband is actually jumping on the gluten free bandwagon with both feet, which surprised me. I think after the first couple of weeks when he started feeling better and then glutened himself and felt so much WORSE again he finally started thinking that I might not be a complete ditz.
