Sista of the Week~8

I have had the pleasure of meeting this weeks Sista of the Week in person. She is so supportive and positive. You can feel the positivity radiating out of her. She was sweet enough to meet me and my crazy family in person. I think we talked for a couple hours before the husbands(ok really the kids, but since the husband were in charge of the kids they were complaining too) said it was time to go.

The support and love that I witnessed in real life continues to all her virtual friends and sistas.

This week Sista of the Week is……

Rachel!!!
1. Name(twitter ID) -
Rachel (@Rachel_L)

2. Location:
Houston, TX

3.Mamavation Goals:
Transform me and and my husband into skinny, rockinhotties.
(or, (1) ultimately lose 50 pounds, through continued healthy eating and sweaty exercise and (2) help my Hubby do the same.)

4. What do you love most about being a Sista in Mamavation ?

I love learning from everyone; each “Sista” brings something different to the group. Some have a treasure house of healthy recipes, some remind us to drink our water, some help us learn how to conserve our planet’s resources. Others share new work-out ideas and running tips. Each post or tweet I read leaves me with something new to think about.

5. Why do you think support in the Sistahood is so important?

I don’t care who you are, NO ONE can handle the weight loss journey alone. You need people, ready and willing, to hug you, hold you, or kick your booty when you need it. I don’t want people to just say, “Oh, good job,” every time they read one of my Mamavation posts. I want people to know my struggles, give advice, and/or tell me to quit complaining and get to work! That’s what support really is and without this accountability/support, we would all go back to our normal routines. That’s our nature. We NEED each other to kick it into gear and get healthy!

Thank you Rachel for your love, your support, and your friendship to all of us at the Sistahood!

Sista of the Week~7

There comes a time when support is needed and it doesn’t even involve weight loss or pushing yourself to live that healthy lifestyle. Support is needed in every day life. This is what a true friend does. They supports you whether you need a shoulder to cry on or someone to kick your tail to get you up and running!

Luckily, the Mamavation team has tons of these people. Everyone apart of Mamavation is a friend. A everyday friend.

This week, we chose one true friend, a real sista to us all to honor.

This weeks Sista of the Week is……

CJ!

1. Name(twitter ID) - @CJinKY
2. Location: Lexington, KY

3.Mamavation Goals: My goals are not only to lose weight (I have over 100lbs to work off!), but to lead a healthier lifestyle and set an example for my family. I want to feel good about myself and lead my family into living a healthier lifestyle too.

4. What do you love most about being a Sista in Mamavation ? I love the constant support. No matter what day or time, I’ve got so many sistas just a tweet away! Every one’s kind words have really kept me going. I also LOVE reading every one’s Monday posts and writing my own. I crave that accountability!

5. Why do you think support in the Sistahood is so important?
Support is crucial in any attempt to lose weight or change a lifestyle. I used to try and lost weight without telling anyone, because they they wouldn’t know when (not if!) I failed. And that’s just what I did – failed. Now, I’ve got women from all over the world that know when (not if!) I succeed. Without constant support, I probably would have only lasted a few days before I gave up. Scarlett (@MMScarlett) has really been a huge help in this area. She told me about Mamavation in the first place! Best. Gift. Ever.

Thank you CJ for your love, your support, and your friendship to all of us at the Sistahood!

Sista of the Week~6

Another week. Another sista to honor!

This weeks Sista of the Week has been apart of Mamavation a long time. She is even part of the Leadership team. She was chosen based on her dedicated, support, and love she shows everyone on Mamavation. She even keeps on pushing herself(and others) even while preggo!

This weeks Sista of the Week is……..

MORGAN!

1. Name(twitter ID) – @mommymomo

2. Location:- Orange County California

3.Mamavation Goals: – To stay fit during this pregnancy. Stay toned and healthy. After this pregnancy to get back into bit time running and working off the baby weight fast. To start running races again, and to be the most active, healthy mommy I can be. With all the adventure sports we do I have too!

4. What do you love most about being a Sista in Mamavation ?- supporting, helping, and encouraging the other sistas! The success stories keep coming in and I’m so proud of each and every one of you! I love seeing Mom’s get healthy and making themselves a priority.

5. Why do you think support in the Sistahood is so important? –
Accountability! We all need it. It drives us to be better. Knowing the other sistas are there supporting each other makes you not want to let each other down. We are all in the same situations. Trying to raise kids, be good wives, and being the best we can be. Friendly support and kind words is HUGE!

Thank you Morgan for all your love, support and dedication to the sistahood!

*This post is Sponsored by EA Sports Active. Morgan will be receiving the Wii MORE Workouts. Thank you EA Sports Active!

Sista of the Week~5

It is that time again ladies! Time to honor a fellow sista who has shown her unconditional support to the sistahood.

This sista has been apart of the sistahood for sometime now. And in her time with us, she has shown true heart, dedication, love, and most importantly support. Not only does she strive for a healthy lifestyle for herself and her family, but she hopes that we can all reach those same goals together.

This weeks Sista of the Week is………

Jessica!

1. Name(twitter ID) fringies

2. Location: Lake Elsinore, CA

3.Mamavation Goals: Ultimately, I want to be a healthy size. According to my BMI, I’m at a healthy weight, but with my family history of heart disease and colon cancer, I’d feel better about losing more inches from my middle. I’d like to thrive, not just survive. I want to be able to run and play with my children. I want to feel comfortable within my own skin. I also want to pass the things I’ve learned on to my children and others. Oh yeah, I’d also like to look HAWT! ;)

4. What do you love most about being a Sista in Mamavation ? I love the give and take. We give and receive support. We teach and learn from each other. I love the friends I have made and the things I’ve learned about myself.

5. Why do you think support in the Sistahood is so important? Everything in life is easier when there is a support system in place! Sometimes the support we need is not available In Real Life. The Sistahood is a ready-made support system for those of us that enjoy the social media aspect of the online world. The desire to live a healthy life unites us regardless of where we are on our journey.

Congrats Jessica! Thank you for all you do for your fellow sista’s!

Show her the love girls!

Sista of the Week~ 4

Oh how I love the Sista of the Week this week. I love all the Sista’s of course. This one though, has really stolen my heart.

She has got to be the most supportive, loving, and amazingly kind person on the PLANET!

And she is preggo!!

You would think those preggo hormones would have her raging at us when we complained about wanting chocolate or wanting to put our feet up instead of get our workout in! ;)

Oh No. This Sista goes above and beyond the call of duty. I know for me personally, when Im having a horrible day, this Sista is the first to remind me I rock. That I can do this. Her words mean so much to me and to many others. That’s why this week, our choice was unanimous.

*Drum Roll Please*

This weeks Sista of the Week is……….

KIA!!!

1. Name(twitter ID) -
Kia (@bodhi_bear)

2. Location:
Boulder, CO

3.Mamavation Goals: Right Now – Working towards a healthy home birth (expected due date 18 June) still active with yoga, weights, walking and swimming.
Post Partum – After 40 days of rest it will be put up or shut up time with my fitness. I want to balance fitness and diet with breastfeeding so that I feel as energized as I can with a newborn without affecting my milk supply. I will return to teaching yoga 6 weeks after birth so will need to focus on diet during my rest time. After that I will be training for a the Denver Rock and Roll 1/2 Marathon in mid-October. I am not pressuring myself to run the whole thing, that would be awesome, but I will be just as happy walking it if my exercise routine does not become regimented after baby gets here. I am flexible with what life after baby will be like so my goals are adaptable and not strictly outlined right now. I know it will be a world of baby steps.

4. What do you love most about being a Sista in Mamavation? I love the Sistahood. I feel honored that you allowed me to enter this world while I was pregnant with my first child to pump me up about what I want from my motherhood experience and the balance of sacrificing myself for my family. I have learned many lessons about all-around health with real life constraints from this sorority of women.

5. Why do you think support in the Sistahood is so important? It is important because it is as real as you make it. With all social media outlets you can be anonymous and disregard others involved or you can be accountable like these are people you see in real life everyday. I have relied on the Sistahood in my pregnancy when I was low on calories and reaching for less than nutritious food and needed to be talked down from the ledge. It is also important because we go through our lows and highs together, it makes the unmotivating times comforting and the victories that much sweeter.

Congrats Kia and Thank you for all you do for the Sistahood. Your support and determination help so many and we thank you!

And just because I think Kia is the cutest preggo ever…here is a belly pic!

Mamavation Mondays: Pregnant Fitness

The Mamavation Sistahood now has seven pregnant Sistas. And it happened so quickly. Like there is something in the water that @mentallyinked, our Water Czar, has been getting us to drink. I’ve been wanting to do something special for these moms for some time now because fitness during pregnancy is VERY important and it needs to be addressed for everyone.

My two pregnancies were very different. My first pregnancy was a very unhealthy pregnancy with loads of stress. (Remember I was caring for my dying father.) The result of that was a difficult 36 hour labor and my son was born with many allergies (all of which he has grown out of already) & Sensory Integration Disorder. My last pregnancy was a super fit pregnancy and the results were a very easy 6 hour labor with 30 seconds of pushing and a baby that is perfectly healthy in every way. Now you never know why things happen, but I feel in my heart that the fitness regime contributed greatly to the health of Mr. Grumpy Pants, my second.

Here are some basic benefits of fitness during pregnancy:
1. Improves circulation which alleviates the following problems: constipation, hemorrhoids, varicose veins, leg cramps, and swelling of the ankles
2. Gives you more energy in a time when you are drained
3. Helps you sleep better
4. Improves mood swings
5. Prepares you for childbirth by giving you a shorter labor, fewer medical interventions, and less exhaustion during labor.
6. Studies show that babies suffer from less asthma & allergies (breastfeeding also contributes to this)
7. Studies show that babies have higher IQs (breastfeeding also contributes to this)

Tracey Mallett, our own Mamavation Trainer, will be on Monday night as our guest talking all about fitness during pregnancy. She has a wealth of knowledge in this area. Please invite your pregnant friends and friends that are looking to get pregnant soon to this show. It’s a very important topic. I know that not everyone is pregnant, but everyone knows someone that is or wants to be.

MAMAVATION TV: Join us Monday night at 7pm EST/10pm PST on Mingle Media TV.

SISTA OF THE WEEK:
And a BIG congratulations to Paige Bayer @Paigebayer for being the Sista of the Week! Give her props on twitter girls!!!!

BLOGGING CARNIVAL: OpenSky is sponsoring this week’s blogging carnival. What is Open Sky? Well, I’m glad you asked. OpenSky is a new commerce platform that enables authors, bloggers, media personalities, media brands and publishers to establish direct customer relationships with their audiences. So basically, it’s like Amazon, but better cause you get a higher rate of return and if you have a product you adore that they don’t carry, they will find it and get it in their shop for you.
Mamavation will be opening up a OpenSky shop, but all proceeds will go either go to charity OR to someone in need in social media.

Sista of the Week~ Week 3

If there was a definition of the word Mamavation, I believe that this sista’s pic would be front and center. Day after day, this sista has been showing her unwavering faith and determination in herself and in each one of us. She supports everyone of us, unconditionally. The way a true Sista should.

This weeks Sista of the Week is……..

Paige!

1. Name(twitter ID) - PaigeBayer

2. Location: San Jose, CA

3.Mamavation Goals: My long term goal is to lose 45 pounds. Since joining mamavation I’ve already lost 9! And since the Earth Footwear Move It and Lose It challenge I’ve lost 4. My short-term goals are to take my weight loss 5 pounds at a time. Ultimately I am doing this because I want to FEEL good. I want to feel energetic, I want to feel like there’s less of me to lug around, I want to feel like I am setting a good example for my children, and I want to feel comfortable in my clothes. Most of all, I want to feel like a hot mama!

4. What do you love most about being a Sista in Mamavation ? I really love all the girls. They’re awesome people, They’re inspiring. They cheer me up and motivate me. When I feel like I’ve failed they help keep me focused. And I know they’ve “been there” in terms of their weight loss, no matter where I am or where they are on the journey. They’re my kindred spirits and I really feel like they’re cheering me on every step of the way.

5. Why do you think support in the Sistahood is so important?
It’s important to feel that type of support. My family is wonderful, my husband is so supportive. But my husband is also 6 foot and 155 pounds (at best!). He has a job that requires him to be very physically active. He doesn’t have the same challenges I do. So it’s nice to have the ear and support of people who get it, and who can give you ideas and help when you need it, and celebrate with you. Because my sistas really know that it takes work and commitment to do what we’re all doing. And we’re in this together.

Thank you Paige for your love and support of Mamavation and the Sistahood!

*This post is sponsored by EA SPORTS Active. Paige will be receiving an MORE Workouts for the Wii. Thank you EA SPORTS Active!

Sista of the Week~2

Being a member of the Sistahood does not mean you are a “veteran” of the weight loss journey. You don’t have to be around for months or even years. Being apart of the Sistahood just means one thing, constant love and support. The Sista of the week this week has only been a member for a few short weeks, but in that time she has shown the reason that Leah picked her to join. She has gone above and beyond to show that she can stand behind each and every one of us, that she loves us and that we can do this. Together.

This weeks Sista of the Week is Lisa Johnston.

1. Name(twitter ID) -Lisa Johnston – @ljenator

2. Location:Katy, Texas

3.Mamavation Goals:

My first major goal is to lose 50lbs by Christmas 2010. After that, I would love to get down to 170, and maintain that weight. While on the road to this weight loss, my short term goals are to infuse all that I’ve learned into my family’s way of life. I would love to be an inspiration to those around me, and not only be able to say that I’m living a healthy lifestyle, but to actually look and feel the part so that I can teach others how they can do the same. With the support of Mamavation and the Sistahood, I am confident that I can achieve all of this as well as help inspire and motivate others.
4. What do you love most about being a Sista in Mamavation ?I love being in the Mamavation Sistahood, because I’ve never been able to stand firm in my decisions to change the way my family and I live – until now. With the Sistahood, it’s been so easy to change the way we eat, exercise, and just be a more healthy family all around because of the support and accountability. Once all of those fall into place, weight loss becomes the much needed benefit.

5. Why do you think support in the Sistahood is so important?
I have come to realize that although I have to make the conscious decision to put down the cookies or drink enough water a day to sink a boat and work out, I’m not the only one going through trials, triumphs, and Kim’s water consumption! My husband told me, not too long ago, that the reason I am succeeding THIS time, is because of Mamavation, and the Sistahood has really helped me hold myself accountable. That’s not something everyone has when they choose this path in life, and I am thankful for the support of Mamavation and the Sistahood. Thank you for choosing me this week!

Thank you Lisa for your constant love and support you offer to the Mamavation Sistahood!

*This post is sponsored by EA SPORTS Active. Lisa will be receiving an EA SPORTS Active for the Wii. Thank you EA SPORTS Active!

Sista of the Week~ Week 1

On Mamavation, support is a huge part of the success behind it. This support is crucial and it all comes from you. Each and every single one of you reading this post, tweeting along with us throughout the day. You are the core of Mamavation. The Sistahood is strong and we support one another through and through. In honor of that support system, we now can acknowledge you individually for your dedication to not only yourself and your family, but to the Sistahood as well.

Here she is ladies, our very first Sista of the Week. This Sista has not only set wonderful goals for herself on Mamavation, but she has pushed forward to reach those goals. She also strives to support every single one of us in our healthy living journey while trying to reach her own.

1. Name(twitter ID) Heather @notdiyheather

2. Location Myrtle Beach, South Carolina (who wants to have a Mamavation beach retreat?)

3.Mamavation Goals: Lose 50 lbs in 2010, be able to run after my almost-3 year old

4. What do you love most about being a Sista in Mamavation ? the support & encouragement, not only that I receive, but that I can give that to others as well

5. Why do you think support in the Sistahood is so important? because the support reminds us that we are not alone. When we’re down, there is always someone who can help pick us up, and vice versa. I know I wouldn’t have stuck with it this long if it wasn’t for the support of my sistas!

Thank you Heather for your constant love and support you offer to the Mamavation Sistahood!

*This post is sponsored by EA SPORTS Active. Heather will be receiving an EA SPORTS Active for the Wii. Thank you EA SPORTS Active!

*Thanks to Kia for our Banner for Sista of the Week.
