Video Post – Week 1 – 7/16/2010 (all_about_savin)

Sorry guys I am posting so late. Today the boys were little terrors and then when the house finally settled down and I tried to upload my video it would not sync. The video portion was on fast forward (like you would through commercials on any day but Super Bowl Sunday) and my voice was slow. I guess I took a page from Scarlett and her darth vader voice!

So while walking tonight I made a video on my IPod (which sync’d fine hmmm). The video is not the greatest and I’m all scruntched up since I had to hold my arm out stretched. I promise next weeks will be better!

So how many times did I say ‘so’ or ‘ummm’?

Time for my first video post! I’m really excited because I had this plan and then felt all inspired to talk about this because I thought about it in the car and it seemed really deep so if it turns out to be a total flop just let me know because I think we’ve all had that “moment” where we have an ephiphany in the car and then when we tell someone else it falls short of the original “ah ha!” feeling it gave us in the car.

Or something like that.

Mamavation Finalists: GO VOTE!

After watching the videos, interaction on twitter, and reading all the applications, I’ve come to a decision. Just to be different and because I CAN, I’ve decided to choose 6 Finalists instead of 5. Yeah, I know I said 5, but it was too difficult to filter this group down even more, so I decided not to. I’m unpredictable like that.

2. You need to see the doctor as soon as possible so I get a doctors note clearing you from the following by July 12th: high intensity exercise, a calorie restricted diet, and the emotional capacity to handle the campaign. DM me and I’ll give you my fax number.

Last piece of advice I’m going to give you is get creative. You will need more than just your social media friends voting for you to win, I would advice you to pull out all the stops to get the votes you need. Every Mamavation Mom that won used all her resources and was very clever with her voting plan. You won’t know what is happening because all the voting results are private, but if you have any questions, DM me with them. I’ll be happy to answer any questions you have.

Sneaking in the Nutrition

This was a week of adventure: healthy menu-planning, fooling my husband with Butternut Squash, and expanding my palette with wheat germ.

That’s right — wheat germ.

In this week’s Mamavation Vlog, you get to see the results of these foodie adventures . . . the good, the bad, and the ugly.

First up is my take on @notdiyheather’s “Healthified Macaroni and Cheese.”  I tweaked her recipe just a bit, omitting the butter and using 2 cups of butternut squash puree (some of the ginormous batch I made for my baby . . . right before he decided he would NEVER eat purees).  By the way, this was a HUGE hit with my kiddos — the squash melded perfectly with the cheese and didn’t overpower the traditional flavor of the dish.

Then, you get to see me make (and eat) one of @drmary14′s breakfast recipes: low-fat yogurt, berries, and WHEAT GERM!  It was my first time to try the wheat germ . . . wow.  That’s all I can say.
