Week One – WOAH Nelly!

So, guys…I can’t even begin to describe what I feel today. I have been so extremely blessed to be a part of Mamavation Campaign 17 with Jessie and Lydia. I STILL am in disbelief that I was actually chosen! I’m in awe. I have wanted to be a Mamavation Mom since I learned about Mamavation almost 2 years ago. I am so thankful my time has finally come! Thank you, Leaders, for choosing me to be a part of this campaign!

I have struggled with my weight, literally, my entire life. It’s been the source of SO MUCH defeat, hurt, exhaustion, pain, etc in me; I KNEW it was time to make a serious change. I have been slowly modifying the way we eat around here…but I have mostly done it for my children. I love them so much and have realized that I put them first too much (to a fault, really), and have let myself go. How can I raise them well if I am not healthy? Or if I am not here to do it? This is something I have control over, so it’s time for change.

This week has been information overload (in the best way possible, of course), it’s been like drinking water from a fire hydrant! So let me break down my week for you:

Diet: I’m learning I *have* to eat enough good fuel for my body to go into weight loss mode. Skipping meals is a thing of the past. I can’t expect my body to burn fat if I do not fuel it to do so. So I have to keep tabs of everything that is going in my mouth. I find that it’s quite liberating! It gives me power over my body and my emotions, because I realize that if it goes in the chute, it goes on the list. And I don’t want the “powers that be” to know I screwed up, because I am DETERMINED to be honest about this. No hiding food. No eating on the sly. Hold me accountable, peeps.

Exercise: Y’all. I am SO sore. Good sore. I never realized how hard hazing would be…or that I could actually survive doing burpees over…and over…and over…and planks…and more planks…and jumping jacks…oh my! Thank you to the “powers” for killing [email protected] is such a fantastic workout coach, and he’s had to modify a few exercises for me. How embarrassing, right? Nah, it’s a growth process. And I am DETERMINED to get where I can do all of them without almost keeling over.

Nutrition: Andrea, over at NaturallySaavy, gave us an eye opening class on reading food labels. I was literally shaken up to see all of the crap that is in our food that the government deems “safe” and that food companies promote to encourage weight loss, healthy diets, etc. Did you know that there are 18 different names that can be used for MSG? So one label can say MSG and another say “vegetable powder” and yet another “soy protein isolate”, or what about “yeast extract”. And the side effects of the additives in food are things we just live with…hyper kids, ADD, ADHD, allergies, migraines, fatigue, blurred vision, headaches, asthma. I am learning. THERE IS A BETTER WAY! Thank you, Andrea, for opening my eyes.

My goal this week is to get a handle on my food planning/prep and make sure I am ALWAYS prepared if I am out and get hungry. I don’t need to be tempted!

I am struggling with posting my before pictures and measurements and my scale weight. This is my biggest insecurity. To know I am being this vulnerable tells me I am desperate for change. I have had a loss of 2lbs since my application video. THAT is a great motivator to stay with it!

I love your video! 🙂 I get mad, too, at the things that we’ve trusted will be safe but are so totally NOT.

Great job, Lori! Keep in mind, the starting point is your baseline measurement! You can’t determine progress without it! I am so proud of you, and I know you can do it!!!! Bombshell in training! Modifications on exercise are essential to prevent injury and give you the baseline to progress from! Just remember that this is a marathon and not a sprint! You have to focus on smaller points along your journey and celebrate those successes in order to achieve your goal! Enjoy the journey! You are in your cocoon and slowly but surely you are becoming that beautiful butterfly, but it takes hard work and determination to wait it out! I am so excited for you and your family! Losing my weight has freed my mind up to focus on enjoying life! Our children deserve happy and healthy parents! I love you lots!!! Your biggest fan!
