Mamavation is Proud to Announce FITGLOW Beauty Products Are Now Free from Detectable PFAS
When we originally posted the Green Beauty Makeup PFAS study, our lab detected indications of PFAS in FITGLOW Beauty’s mascara. Then a few months after the post was released, the owner Anna Buss, reached out to me for help. She hadn’t seen our investigation right away but was in touch as soon as she had. She was very concerned about her independent lab results from Mamavation’s lab and wanted to fix the issue right away. She also wanted to know what other brands were doing to identify PFAS and reformulate their green beauty products.
How FITGLOW Beauty Found & Dealt With PFAS
FITGLOW Beauty used our EPA-certified laboratory and sent several products for examination. Oddly, the first results she got were all non-detect and she sat there baffled. Then after additional discussions with Mamavation on issues other brands were having, she began to interview her manufacturer and discovered the problem. During the quarantine, her manufacturer swapped out her iron oxide to another supply she hadn’t vetted WITHOUT TELLING HER and that was the batch that we tested that came up with detections of PFAS “forever chemicals.” So the complications of the supply chain and some transparency issues with her manufacturer were the problem.
Anna since then has fixed all these issues and has sent her products to our lab and has received several non-detect results. We are now confident that she has fixed her supply chain problem and we can recommend her brand as one that immediately took action to protect her customers.
This also testifies to the issues with the supply chain the how little manufacturers are on the hook to be transparent to brands in general–something we believe needs to be addressed in federal legislation.
PFAS “Forever Chemicals” Are Linked to Problematic Health Effects
PFAS “forever chemicals” are problematic to human health and the environment. They are considered persistent, ubiquitous, and very toxic. Because they do not naturally exit the body for many months or many years and are not known to degrade in the environment, they are considered “forever chemicals.” Therefore, it’s imperative to reduce the amount of PFAS you are exposed to by food, water & personal care like cosmetics.
Here’s a list of health effects PFAS chemicals are linked to presently:
- reduction in immunity
- reduced vaccination response
- increased risk of allergies & asthma in young children
- affect the growth, learning, and behavior of infants and older children
- increase cholesterol levels
- metabolic diseases like obesity & diabetes
- cardiovascular disease
- lower a woman’s chance of getting pregnant
- lowers male fertility
- smaller penis size
- increase the risk of kidney & testicular cancers
- Causes endocrine disruption
- Disrupts normal thyroid function
If you feel like you’ve been exposed to PFAS, especially during pregnancy, the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry, a division of Community Health Investigations has created this health advisory fact sheet to use when talking to your doctor. While regulating authorities struggle to catch up, it would be wise to limit your daily exposure to PFAS markers within food like pasta sauce or ketchup. You don’t want indications of PFAS in your makeup either.

It’s concerning to hear about FITGLOW Beauty’s experience with their manufacturer swapping out ingredients without their knowledge. It’s important for brands to have open communication with their manufacturers to avoid such issues in the future.

I really, truly hope that somebody sues the companies that are responsible for putting such garbage in cans and other packaging and that they end up winning the case. Unfortuitously, we have no choice but to deal with these monkey brain corporations that intentionally poison their clients. I don’t understand what the heck is wrong with them.
