A couple of months ago, I flew to New York City for Chiquita Bananas to accompany them at the Dr. Oz Show. I had a fantastic time in the Big Apple. It was my first time there. I’ve never really needed to go because I lived in London for six months and got that needing to live in a “big metropolis” out of my system. I was only there for about a day, but I packed as much silliness in that time as I could. And basically I would call this trip a working vacation 😉
Let’s start off with flying. I hate flying. This is what happens to my face when I’m flying and I don’t have @Pete_Cohen around to talk me off of a ledge…which is just about every time I fly. Damn English time zones.
Yeah, not so pretty. If I’m lucky, I’ll sit next to someone interesting and obsessively talk to them while the plane is taking off and landing. Yes, I’m a bit nuts. Whatever. Don’t worry, I got there okay, but New York is very far from Los Angeles, so by the time I got there I only really had time for dinner and then bed. But the following morning, I walked around a bit and got to see some sights.
Yes, I know. Those are just pictures of me, but I NEVER get out. So I totally want pics of myself when I do. At least pics of myself wearing makeup. That never happens at home in my REAL glamorous life. I’m more changing diapers and keeping small children from killing each other.
Okay, so down to business. Technically you can’t tweet during the taping of Dr. Oz, but I’m used to doing things without getting permission. My motto which I learned from an internship with Richard Riordan during my college years, “it’s always easier to get forgiveness than permission.” Yeah, story of my life. But this was the look on my face when they told us to turn off all our phones. I’m mean, come on…I came here JUST to tweet!
But I was stealthy enough to get a picture before I was hijacked by the men in the black with very authoritative looking badges. I think that was security. Although they could have been Al Qaeda for all I knew. I just didn’t want to get kicked out by them. (Now I’m sure government search bots are looking over my site cause I mentioned Al Qaeda in a blog post.)
Okay, so I lied. There weren’t really men in black. The security guys were in blue but “black” was kinda cooler sounding. Anyways, I’m about to show you the most important picture. One that I will treasure for the rest of my life. Dr. Oz. Yeah, I know he’s a bit older than me. But he totally represents everything I love. Btw, I’m now President of the Dr. Oz Fan Club. Okay, maybe that was a lie, but I bet the President of his fan club didn’t get to squeeze him for five minutes like I did as the camera was malfunctioning. 😉
Then I got all professional and sat with the President of Chiquita Bananas. Chiquita Bananas sponsored a series of episodes on the Dr. Oz Healthy Family Challenge. Have any of you wondered about how to start a healthy lifestyle as a family? Dr. Oz helps with this post. He offers a 7-week step by step plan to help moms rejuvenate the health of their family. Chiquita also sponsored several guest hosts on the show–a group of overweight teenagers from a local high school. These students were taken through a mini bootcamp. I watched the ending of that challenge where we see the actual results. And then the Chiquita Banana Lady came out and I was taken back in vintage style.
Back to Brian Kocher, President of Chiquita Bananas. He’s a nice guy. Easy to talk to. I was intrigued by how Chiquita wants to get more involved in the social media sphere. I think that would be fantastic. He also talks a bit about healthy snacks for moms.
And if you still aren’t sold on how cool Chiquita is, check this out. You can record yourself singing the Chiquita Banana song and load it to YouTube. Lisa Johnson @ljenator has already done this. Anyone one else want to take a crack?
The Dr. Oz show that I was sitting through will premiere this MONDAY. So check your listings for the show. Maybe you’ll catch the part where I’m kidnapped by the men in black in the background just before the Chiquita Banana Lady comes out. HA!
