Sometimes you run out of ideas when cooking, or at least you think you’ve run out of ideas. The easiest way to come up with a new culinary creation is to simply adapt classic recipes. That’s exactly how I came up with this week’s budget friendly organic meals. I’ve tweaked the recipes that my family loves and made them new and improved.
This was the trickiest menu to keep under budget so far. That’s because it uses organic bacon, organic chicken, and organic cheese. These can be budget busters if you don’t shop the sales. It’s important to buy organic animal products because it means the animals were fed a GMO-free diet, and animals are on a whole better treated on organic farms. I purchased the organic chicken a few shopping trips ago when it was on sale for $2.99/lb. It’s been in my freezer waiting for me to create a recipe. Organic bacon doesn’t make it into our house very often, because it’s rarely on sale. When I saw organic bacon at a great price I didn’t hesitate. I am regretting that I didn’t buy more than one package! The organic cheese was my regular price splurge item, because you can’t skimp there when making a grilled cheese. After crunching the numbers I came close, just 19 cents over $25. I’ll call it on budget! Here is what this week’s menu and costs break down to:
