Mamavation has been investigating products & food you would find at the grocery store for several years. And every year we add more and more. Lab Testing Products for Cancer-Causing Contaminants

Mamavation has been testing brands for contaminants like indications of PFAS “forever chemicals”, DDT, glyphosate, & phthalates for years. These are not ingredients you will see on an ingredient label. Some are found in our laboratory because they are pesticides used to treat crops while other chemicals are “indirect additives” approved by the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) for use in manufacturing. We use several EPA-Certified labs to help us find indications of these chemicals and report on those findings here. Our scientific & medical advisory team helps us translate the science behind the findings, while our supply chain advisors help us make sense of the data.

PFAS “Forever Chemicals” Consumer Studies with Lab Testing

Mamavation works with an EPA-certified laboratory to test for organic fluorine, which is a marker for PFAS “forever chemicals.” All reporting here is based on the results directly from those laboratories. Most scientific reviews for PFAS studies were performed by (1) Terrence Collins, Teresa Heinz Professor of Green Chemistry & Director of the Institute for Green Sciences at Carnegie Mellon University, (2) Linda S. Birnbaum, Scientist Emeritus and Former Director of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences and National Toxicology Program & Adjunct Professor at Duke University, North Carolina University, & Yale University, (3) Pete Myers, Chief Scientist at Environmental Health Sciences, Adjunct Professor of Chemistry at Carnegie Mellon University, and Co-Author of Our Stolen Future, & (4) Scott Belcher, Associate Professor with the Center for Environmental & Health Effects of PFAS at North Carolina State University. Scientific reviews have also been performed by Hannah Gardener, Epidemiologist from A Green Slate, Sondra Strand, RN, BSN, PHN, and Rebecca Harks, RN.

We are looking for both ingredients on the label that are hormone-disrupting & ingredients not present on the label based on manufacturing that are hormone-disrupting to make judgment calls. We use advisement from our scientific & medical advisory team to make sense of the overall findings for you.
